A classic gin cocktail that was the signature drink at The Pegu Club in Yangon, Myanmar. One of its earliest mentions was in the book "ABC of Mixing Cocktails."

The Pegu Club gin cocktail recipe:

  • 50 mls Redsmith London Dry Gin
  • 25 mls Curaçao
  • 5 mls Rose’s Lime Cordial or fresh lime juice
  • 1 dash of orange bitters
  • 1 dash of Angostura bitters

Shake with ice, strain and enjoy a classic gin cocktail first mixed over one hundred years ago.

Originally The Pegu Club cocktail included Rose’s Lime Cordial in its makeup, but during its revival in the early 2000s this was often omitted in favour of fresh lime juice.

We tasted both versions for comparison and found them to be very similar, with the Rose’s Lime Cordial being just a touch sweeter with a little more unctuous mouthfeel. Fresh lime juice imparted a zesty dry zing that I thought was wonderful. I really wanted to prefer the Rose’s version (as I have a fondness for this cordial in a gimlet) but found myself gravitating towards the fresh lime.
